Business Biography

Having created an independent record label and successful artist management company, Stephen Budd started SBM in 1988 after working for three years with David Bowie's producer, Tony Visconti, managing his career and his Dean Street studio.

Stephen Budd Management (SBM) was one of the first entities to focus purely on the sales, management and career development of record producers and songwriters and in 1998 developed it’s sister record-producers.com website to market SBM’s clients on-line.

Originally a roadie for bands such as Motorhead, Generation X, X-Ray Specs etc founder Stephen Budd went into artist management representing Big Sound Authority, The Sound and later Tanita Tikaram and Heaven 17. Stephen started SBM in 1988 after working for three years with David Bowie's producer, Tony Visconti, managing his career and his Dean Street recording studio.

The company now represents around 25 of the world's leading producers, mixers and songwriters including Arthur Baker, Rick Nowels, Mark Saunders, Jon Kelly, Stephen Hague, Tore Johansson and Valgeir Sigurdsson.

SBM is heavily sales and marketing led, operating in virtually every market in the world, but with a heavier accent towards UK and European work.

In 2001 SBM merged with Channelfly PLC and Stephen became a director of the Channelfly Group which includes the Barfly Clubs, The Fly Magazine and SuperVision artist management - started by Stephen and Paul Craig in 1999 - which manages acts including Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs.

Channelfly is now a part of MAMA Group PLC which also owns Hammersmith Apollo, The Forum, Jazz Café venues and the Lovebox, Global Gathering, Surfstock and Great Escape festivals.
