Arthur Baker

client imageWriter / Producer / Mixer / Remixer / Engineer / Programmer

Arthur is one of the few producers who can actually lay claim to having changed dance music history and at the same time still be admired in the rock world. For example, he pioneered cut'n'paste sampling tunes with the hugely acclaimed "Put the Needle To The Record" and then went on to produce Ash's hit "A Life Less Ordinary" and Electronic's album "Twisted Tenderness".

Arthur, together with Afrika Bambaataa & the Soul Sonic Force, gave an unsuspecting world "Planet Rock", the first electronic hip-hop tune.

He then went on to amass a long list of production and mixing credits including gold and platinum albums by New Edition, Bruce Springsteen, New Kids On The Block, Quincy Jones, Hall & Oates and Taylor Dayne. He also produced and mixed singles for Talking Heads, Bob Dylan. U2, Suzanne Vega, The Pet Shop Boys, Debbie Harry, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie and Paul McCartney. His 1984 reworking of the Rolling Stones' "Too Much Blood" is widely regarded as a seminal pre-acid house prototype.

Arthur has also worked on several soundtrack projects, with his production of the Fried Green Tomatoes soundtrack yielding a top fifteen US hit for Paul Young. In the 90's he worked as Associate Producer on the controversial clubbing film "Human Traffic".

Recent projects include: Pink Grease, Blondie, Interpol & Ramstein.
