Billy Steinberg :: Biography
Billy Steinberg has been among the most successful songwriters of the past two decades, co-writing (with Tom Kelly) five No.1 singles on the Billboard "Hot 100" chart, including "Like A Virgin" (Madonna), "True Colors" (Cyndi Lauper), "Eternal Flame" (The Bangles), "So Emotional" (Whitney Houston) and "Alone" (Heart). In addition, he has written six other Top 10 U.S. pop hits, including "I'll Stand By You" (The Pretenders), "I Touch Myself" (The Divinyls), "How Do I Make You" (Linda Ronstadt), "I Drove All Night" (Cyndi Lauper) and "In Your Room" (The Bangles).
In the late-nineties, Billy won Grammy Awards for "Falling Into You", on Celine Dion's multi-platinum album. He also wrote notable cuts for k.d. Lang, The Corrs, Amber including "Sexual (Li Da Di)", Enrique Iglesias, Chynna Phillips (including her Top 40 hit "Naked And Sacred"), Ace Of Base, and international No.1 hit singles for Melanie C ("I Turn To You") and Robert Miles ("One And One"). Billy co-wrote the 2006 T.A.T.U. hit "All About Us".
Billy had a Top Ten International hit with "I Drove All Night" for the great Roy Orbison. The track was released again in 2003 when Celine Dion recorded a new version and was a U.S. hit. Her recording was used in numerous Chrysler TV ads.
Atomic Kitten covered "Eternal Flame" in 2002 and had a huge No.1 hit. In 2003 they also had a hit with Billy's recent song "Love Doesn't Have To Hurt".
"True Colours", which was a hit for Phil Collins and included on his Greatest Hits CD, was also used as a theme song in 2003 for the Rugby World Cup, Kodak ads and the current Dove "Self Esteem" commercials. .
