Cathy Battistessa :: Biography
Cathy's fluid, evocative style reflects her Ibiza roots. Her haunting voice and soul-searching lyrics are grounded in Balearic sentiments that blissfully sit amidst beats, grooves and overflowing rhythms. Her energy and inspiration has driven her to write all her own material and add her vocal genius to a host of productions. As a live performer, Cathy is awe inspiring and live appearances take the form of acoustic sets or as a DJ/vocal freestyler (Cathy performs regularly in Europe with Stephane Pompougnac, DJ from the Hotel Coste, Paris and the creator of their worldwide selling albums) or live band performances for her own artist material..
Cathy spent most of the last seven / eight years living in Ibiza, writing and singing with a variety of producers including Jose Padilla, Lenny Ibizarre, Levitation & Slow.Pulse. She improvised live vocals over DJ sets including DJ Pippi, Roy the Roach, Breeze, Blocko, Lenny Ibizzare & Arian 911. One of her best known songs is perhaps the hugely respected island classic, "More Than Ever People", still played throughout the world as a seminal Ibizan track (think Barefoot by All About Eve) and licensed to chill out compilations worldwide. This originally appeared on Café Del Mar volume 5 and soon Cathy became a regular voice on the albums with the tracks "Home" and "Riva" appearing on volume 6 & 7.
Cathy is now based back in the UK and concentrating on her career in this country. For the past year, she's focused on working with like minded and musically inspired producers and adding her featured vocals and songs to their albums. A new single "Sun Cries Golden Tears" is due to be released on BMG / Sunday Best and is a quality collaboration between her and Rob Da Bank for his own production base, Lazy Boy. Cathy has also laid down a stunning track with Afterlife entitled "Spec Of Gold", for his album due for release on Subatomic Recordings. Cross over the channel and she's just as popular in France featuring on Stephane Pompougnac's artist album on Pschent Records and sitting alongside other featured artists such as Michael Stipe and Juliette Benichou.
Cathy is also still tending her Ibiza Roots and is closely working with fellow Balearic Guitarist/Producer, Paco Fernandez. She has written new material for his album signed to Edel Records & performed in his live show, Gente Del Sol which toured throughout Europe in the Summer of 2003. The show blended raw traditional Flamenco, R & B, soulful flavours, beats and percussion with various Ibizan DJ's guesting. Back in the UK her songwriting skills and stunning vocal has recently been recorded by X-Press 2 for their forthcoming album - a true gem of a song dying to see the light of day year
This year Cathy is focusing on writing material at her home studio for her own album plus working with a variety of writer / producers for musical inspiration such as Phil Parsley (Parsley Sound / Mo Wax Records), KK (Brian Eno, Dido, Bjork), Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjork, Mum) and Fabian Waltmann (Janet Jackson, Etienne Daho). Keen to stand out from the crowd, her artistic direction is always lead by powerful emotion combined with sweet textures and a soul-searching lyrical flow - the album is all about great songs being moulded into rhythms and grooves, to be appreciated by all those that hear a melody and want to ride it forever …..
