SYZE UP (DESERT EAGLE DISCS) :: Biography
It all started when a cousin living in New York sent Syze some mix-tapes. Upon hearing Grandmaster Flash's "The Message", he realised his love for hip-hop fused with his love for Blondie, Gary Numan & Kraftwerk could create a brand new sound. This is demonstrated in a huge and varied body of work, with the likes of Annie Lennox, Aretha Franklin, Santana, Busta Rhymes, hip hop pioneer Rakim and even Prince.
Syze-Up started working as Desert Eagle Discs (D.E.D.) in the late 90s & soon became the go to remixer for U.S. hip hop artists such as Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes & Rakim. Syze also became the first British producer to have released a track on Sean Diddy Combs's Bad Boy label, a remix of Mase's "What U Want.
Whilst demand for their production and remixes grew, D.E.Ds own debut album "The Eagle Has Landed" (Arista) drew comparisons to Massive Attack, and featured an array of vocalists handpicked by Syze. GQ hailed it "the benchmark album of 1999".
Syze went on to write the second D.E.D. album with Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry, Angie Stone, Annie Lennox & Sia. With further writing success in the form of his 2003 single with The Echo Label (Chrysalis Group), entitled "Bigger Better Deal", with vocals by Keisha White & Rodney P. Around this time Syze realised a lifelong dream by forming Desert Eagle Associated Labels or D.E.A.L.
Syze has recently produced some amazing work with programmer Richard Robson (Richard Ashcroft & The Magic Numbers). The duo have set the club scene on fire with their remixes of Sugababes, Mattafix and Amy Winehouse tracks, with "Rehab" (Desert Eagle Discs Vocal Mix) gaining more airplay than the original version on college radio across the US.
In addition to working on their highly anticipated upcoming album, D.E.D.
are writing and / or producing new U.S. artist Max Cavour as well as Parlophone's
new signing Tinie Tempah, young soul songstress Dionne Bromfield, child
star Shaheen and female leading MC Baby Blue.
Syze has also recently remixed Pixie Lott's Cry Me Out and Dionne's Ain't
No Mountains High Enough feat Zalon for Mercury and Island respectively.
