Mark Knight & Martijn ten Velden :: Biography

Martijn ten Velden & Mark Knight Biography Dutch born DJ and producer, Martijn ten Velden (of Audio Drive fame) & Maidstone Mafia member / Toolroom Records partner, Mark Knight joined remix and production forces in the Autumn of 2003. Ever since then it's been a rollercoaster of a ride with their tracks and remixes causing a real stir on the UK and international underground house scenes. They have received constant support from the likes of Tong plus many more industry main players and have been referred to on many occasions as being true innovators of a fresh new house sound.

Their first production, "Our House EP" was released on DTPM in November 2003 and reached number 6 in the BuzzChart, number 8 in the HypeChart and has been cutting up dancefloors ever since. It also received heavy radio play from all key tastemakers including Radio 1's Essential Selection and Seb Fontaine plus Capital's Ali B and Kiss 100's Tom Stephan. At the special launch party for "Our House" they played a blistering four deck set at Fabric, London. Their next production was the "Acid Test", released on Fantastic House in March 2004 with radio support again from Tong plus Seb Fontaine, Annie Nightingale and X-press 2. It was also hailed by Steve Lawler as his biggest track of 2003 and his comments about the track were echoed from all corners of clubland :
"I've had this one for at least six months and used it in my Essential Mix put out in October. There have only been Pete Tong and myself with a copy for quite a while, and I've been playing it every single set. I've even played it twice in some sets! As soon as the acid line comes in, I love it. It goes into an acid break and has a building clap. The crowd reaction it gets is just wicked!" Steve Lawler, 2004

Martijn and Mark's latest project "The Hedgetrimmerz" has just been released on Toolroom Trax and climbed up the charts to reach no. 10 in the Buzz Chart. With so much great response, the boys are keen to build on the buzz they've created so far and have already been working on new productions which feature some of their favourite vocalists, including a new production with E.Man and one for Defected Records with Lisa Millett. There are also rumours that 2005 they will be hooking up with the inimitable Lee Cabrera to work on a co-production.

On the personal front, Martijn has also just signed his first solo endeavour "The Sureshot EP" to Nocturnal Groove, the record label behind no. 1 UK chart topping, "Lola's Theme" fame. It's already reached number 8 in the Buzz Chart, with support from Tom Stephan, Smokin Jo, Shamus Haji, Beginnerz, Cricco Castelli, and it's due for general release soon. Mark likewise has released solo productions with Milk'n'2 Sugars working his huge club hit "Filthy House EP" along with other labels such as Hed Kandi, Kidology and Z Records picking up projects from the ever popular DJ, producer.

Martijn and Mark have become a formidable remix team throughout 2004 and have been in high demand. Their remix for Allister Whitehead's classic cover of Nightcrawlers "Let the Music (Use You)" created a real hype at 2004's WMC and was heavily promoted through hot house label, Toolroom Records to the city of beaches, babes and bubblin' tracks. It consequently reached the much deserved chart position of no. 2 in the Miami Buzz Chart and single of the week in Update. Continuing on their remix success stories, Martijn and Mark have reworked Joey Negro (aka Dave Lee) production Erro "Don't Change" for Z Records and Steve Lawler's "Lost" on Subversive. Also Brad Carter's "Morning Always Comes Too Soon" for Positiva, which reached the no. 1 spot in the Buzz Chart and their massive remix of "Strings of Life" for Defected, reached the no. 1 spot in the Buzz Chart the week after. Their latest remix for Portobello "Vive La Difference" is out now on promo and watch this space for their remixes for Narcotic Thrust and 8 Letters - both were completed for Deep Dish and their label Yoshitoshi Recordings. 2005 looks to be their year...
