MIKE HEDGES :: Biography
Mike Hedges started his career as a tape-op at Morgan Studios in London in the late 1970s. Having graduated to engineer, Hedges went freelance in 1981 and quickly moved on to make his mark as an engineer/producer. Hedges' first major collaboration was with The Cure and resulted in their debut single 'Killing an Arab'.
Hedges opened his own facility, the Playground, in nearby Camden Town where he continued to work with The Cure as well as the Associates and Siouxsie and the Banshees. His subsequent credits have included U2, Dido, the Manic Street Preachers, Travis, Texas, The Beautiful South and Manic Street Preachers' Everything Must Go -- which was voted best album of 1996 by Q, Vox, Select and Music Week, and which won the BRIT Award for Album Of The Year.
His more recent work includes Dido's album life for rent, which sold several million copies in under a year. he worked as part of the musical team for the blockbuster film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. in 2007, he produced the single My Generation for the hit band The Zimmers, which was released on 28 of may 2007 and quickly entered #26 in the UK charts. the band have become wordly famous, and appeared on the Jay Leno Show in America.
Also, between the year 1996 and 2000, Hedges worked continuously on music for the Grammy Awards for four years in a row, a feat that has yet to be accomplished by another producer.
As of 2007, Hedges has decided to tone down his career and accept fewer
jobs, so that he may spend more time with his family. He is currently
in a relationship with British impressionist artist Anna Nightingale,
and he spends most of his spare time with his three sons from his previous
relationship.
