Rick Nowels :: Biography
Rick Nowels is a Grammy award winning songwriter / producer who has worked with many of the most vibrant artists in contemporary music. He is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, keyboards, bass) who incorporates contemporary sounds and rhythms within classic songwriting. Working with some of the most innovative programmers and musicians, he has had numerous hit records both nationally and internationally including smashes with Madonna, Dido, Nelly Furtado, New Radicals, Texas, Ronan Keating, Melanie C, Jewel, 2Pac, Sonique and Santana.
Rick co-wrote several tracks for the Dido album 'Life For Rent' including the world-wide smash 'White Flag' (ASCAP Song of the Year, Ivor Novello award) and 'Sand In My Shoes'. He co-wrote 2Pac’s posthumous hit 'Loyal To The Game' and wrote and produced the Santana hit 'Game Of Love' (ASCAP Song of the Year) featuring Michelle Branch which won a Grammy. He also co-wrote Jewel's massive US hit 'Standing Still'.
Prior to this Rick produced Dido's 'Here With Me' and 'Hunter' singles from her 15,000,000 selling world-wide No 1 'No Angel' album; he co-wrote three songs with Madonna on her seminal 'Ray Of Light' album, including the world-wide smash 'Power of Goodbye' and wrote and produced the Melanie C single 'I Turn To You' plus several tracks on her hit 'Northern Star' album. He wrote Texas's hit single 'Inner Smile'; wrote and produced the Ronan Keating singles 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' and 'Loving Each Day' plus tracks on the multi-million selling 'Ronan' album. Rick wrote and produced Sonique's hit single 'Sky', the seminal New Radicals hit 'You Get What You Give' as well as many other classic hits for the likes of Belinda Carlisle and songs with KD Lang, Amber, Craig David and Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac amongst many others.
Rick has recently produced Yusuf Islam's 'Another Cup' album – the acclaimed comeback album for Cat Stevens - and co-wrote Nelly Furtado's single 'In God's Hands' and songs on her multi-platinum 'Loose' album. Recently he has been writing with a succession of major artists including Estelle, Daniel Powter and John Legend.
