Rik Simpson :: Biography
Rik jumped straight into the studio from school in 1990. After a few years assisting and being in bands himself he settled down into engineering, with producers such as John Leckie, Nigel Goddrich, Flood, Steve Osbourne, Jim Abbiss, Howie B, Craig Leon, Robin Millar, Alan Moulder, John Cornfield, Matt Rowe, Ken Nelson and Hugh Padgham all having made his acquaintance.
His experience has spanned a number of top British studios since 1990 including, Swanyard, Eden, Trident, Abbey Road, Livingstone, Air Lyndhurst, Rockfields, The Wool Hall, and Helioscentric reaching house engineer at Mayfair Studios in 1997.
Since leaving Mayfair Rik has been freelancing, mainly producing, engineering and programming for bands and producers around London. His calm and friendly attitude matches his professionalism whether he's mixing on the desk (SSL, Neve etc), recording a live band in the studio, programming loops and keys or editing audio within Pro Tools (or Logic or Cubase).
Having been in the studio as digital audio evolved through the nineties, Rik has an excellent knowledge of analogue recording techniques and equipment (microphones, tape machines, studio processors, fx etc) but has always moved with and been excited by the creative possibilities of new computer technology.
