Simon Gogerly :: Biography

Simon was trained at London's prestigious Mayfair Studios by John Hudson, joining in 1988. During his four years there he progressed from assisting to mixing tracks for Soul II Soul, The Farm and The Art of Noise as well as becoming the in-house engineer and programmer.

After going freelance in 1992, Simon worked mainly with Stephen Hague recording New Order, Jimmy Somerville and mixing The Other Two. In 1993 he went on the road with New Order in the US and Europe as tour programmer. From 1994 to 1999 he worked with a variety of producers on a regular basis mainly as mix engineer. They included Sly & Robbie whenever they were in the UK (Bob Marley, Maxi Priest and Suggs), Definition Of Sound (Beverley Knight) and Boilerhouse (Texas, Stereophonics and Another Level). He also engineered a substantial number of Hip-Hop and R&B remixes with Syze-Up of Desert Eagle Discs for artists such as Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Rakim, Mase, Jamiroquai, Simply Red and Sia.

For the past few years Simon has been engineering for Nellee Hooper on various projects including No Doubt's triple US platinum album "Rocksteady", Lamb's "Gabriel" and U2's album "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" and Gwen Stefani's album "Love Angel Music Baby". Independently, he has mixed the debut albums by Kevin Mark Trail, new cult electropop band Eskimo Disco and tracks for Neo, Killa Kela and Jay Sean.

Simon is currently working with Nellee on tracks for Interscope act The Pussycat Dolls and they recently remixed a Jennifer Lopez/Fat Joe single "Hold You Down". He has also just completed mixing tracks for Sanctuary signing Red Route and pop/punk band The Noise Next Door (including forthcoming single "She Might"). He recently had a No.1 single with U2's "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" and a No.4 single with Jay Sean's "Stolen".

Simon Gogerly won a grammy at the 2006 Grammy Awards for his work on U2's album "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb". Two tracks he mixed also won awards - "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own", winner of "Song Of The Year" Award and "City Of Blinding Lights" winner of "Best Rock Song" Award. He was also nominated for his work on the multi platinum selling album "Love, Angel, Music, Baby" by Gwen Stefani.

Simon is also producing/mixing tracks for new acts Elements and Cornerstones in his own Protools & Logic equipped SSL studio.
