Stephen Hilton :: Biography

Stephen has been involved for more then fifteen years in the music industry - in both movies and production and programming with some of the most incredible artists working today. Since he signed his first publishing deal to a label offshoot of Sony Music he has gone on to be one of the most respected electronic musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. Record-wise, Stephen has contributed as either co-producer or a programmer to the works of Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Moloko, Isaac Hayes, The Pet Shop Boys, Scott Walker, Pulp, David Holmes, Bomb the Bass, Mel C, The Divine Comedy, Dirty Vegas, Martina Topley-Bird, Natasha Bedingfield, Joy Zipper, The John Spencer Blues Explosion, Craig Armstrong, David Arnold, Trevor Horn, Rick Nowels, and the list goes on....

Stephen's work on movie scores comprises of some 20 Hollywood features (including two James Bond movies) namely 'The World Is Not Enough' and 'Die Another Day' in addition to the fantastic 'Ocean's 11', '12' & '13', Moulin Rouge', 'Shaft', 'Zoolander', 'The Bone Collector', 'Plunkett & McLeane', 'Analyse That', 'Buffallo Soldiers', Luc Besson's 'Kiss Of The Dragon' and numerous more. Stephen formed 'The Free Association' with David Holmes and under this name they have been writing and producing together as a band and as soundtrack composers including scores for 'Code 46' by Michael Winterbottom ('24hour party people') starring Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton, a futuristic love story which resulted in them being nominated for European Composer of the year at the European Movie Awards & Bronwen Hughes' ''Stander', based on a true story about South African chief of police in 1979 starring Thomas Jane and Dexter Fletcher. Both music scores were already incredibly well received by the press (including a glowing piece in Hollywood Reporter).

With Free Association, their album was a heavily critically acclaimed piece of work and the band embarked on extensive European tour which took in Glastonbury, V2003, Kristiansand and Roskilde as well as securing a performance on the prestigious BBC's 'Later' with Jools Holland. The Free Association music features on a variety of car adverts, including a Renault Clio Campaign (UK) and a VW Campaign (Germany & Turkey). Other repertoire has been licensed to CSI - the American Crime drama series amongst other TV programs.

Most recently he has been collaborating with Siouxsie Sioux and co-wrote the track 'Drone Zone' for her forthcoming, long awaited solo artist album 'Mantaray', composed, produced and mixed the music for the National Movie Awards and is currently writing with David McAlmont.

Stephen has also just finished crafting his debut artist project entitled "Flykkiller" which has already been reviewed by The Sunday Times, calling it 'The best psyched up twisted soul record of the year'. The LP is due for release in October '07, which includes a fantastic remix of the same titled single by his side kick Holmes.

Stephen is signed as a writer to BMG Publishing (UK).
