Biography
Stephen Budd runs Damon Albarn’s Africa Express project and music festivals around the globe. With a background in African music (he managed the renowned Songhoy Blues and worked with Fatoumata Diawara and Seun Kuti) and long history of crate-digging in Africa, he has amassed a significant collection of original 1970’s vinyl from Ghana, Nigeria, Congo and elsewhere which he mixes with eclectic Jazz, Rare-Groove and obscure Disco. His high tempo shows across the world have included Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival France, The Bratislava World Music Festival and Pohoda Festivals, Slovakia, Arkaoda Istanbul, the DMZ Peace Train Festival Korea and many more. He has featured at famed London venues including The National Theatre, Oval Space, Ace Hotel (for Diggers Dozen), the Spiritland venues and is a regular at The Jago, Dalston. He has had radio shows on Worldwide FM, NTS and Netil.
