During a career spanning 10 years, James has achieved a whole range of successes including a number 1 single, 3 top 10 albums and NME Single of the Week. He now boasts a world class, state-of-the-art production and mix studio, Studio27a.
It was James’s experiences in his own band as a teenager, which led him to realise a true love of recording and mixing songs, further enhanced by a musical engineering course at the prestigious Institute for Performing Arts. In 2004, Mike Crossey invited James to become his studio assistant and James immediately started working with some of today’s most recognised bands including the Arctic Monkeys. It was a combination of these invaluable experiences that has allowed James to develop his technical skill and for his own musicality to surface.
After moving to London James began engineering for songwriter Sacha Skarbek, which led to further opportunities to work with recognised artists such as Duffy, Natalie Imbruglia and Melanie Blatt. James also engineered for songwriter Rick Nowels, working on songs for the likes of Cee Lo Green and James Blunt.
In 2007, James became a freelance producer and mixer starting with successful collaborations including mixes for Cajun Dance Party, recognised by NME as their Single of the Week. He led the production and mixing of Simon Webbe’s ‘Ride The Storm’ single, soundtrack to 20th Century Fox movie ‘Fantastic 4 – Rise of the Silver Surfer’. James later went on to have success with Netherlands rock band Di-Rect, with a number 1 single plus two top 5 albums in Holland.
Further successes were to follow with mixes for Mercury Record signing, Wonderland, reaching the top 10 in the UK album chart. James co-produced a track for Atlantic signing Dog Is Dead for their forthcoming debut album and mixed various tracks for Seye Adeleken’s debut album (due for release on Mercury). He mixed the debut EP ‘Grow’ for Rae Morris and has just completed work on Alexz Johnson’s EP ‘Skipping Stone’.
Most recently James mixed the debut single ‘Dream Of Me’ for hotly tipped Kristina Train. This song became single of the week on BBC Radio 2 and then subsequently added to the A-List rotation.
James has worked internationally with a variety of artists. These have all contributed to his musical education, leading to a recognised and trusted taste for indie, pop and urban music.
