Biography
Tim, a Bristol-based mixer, engineer, and producer, boasts an impressive roster of recent clients, including Bat For Lashes, Portishead, Hannah Peel, Balenciaga, Laura Groves, Anna Calvi, and Torres.
Raised on the serene south coast, he delved into sound manipulation at an early age, experimenting with tape recorders and creating intricate tape loops and vari-speed sound designs by dismantling cassettes—an unwitting introduction to his future sonic explorations. This sense of sonic adventure remains a central element of his workflow.
Upon relocating to Bristol, he crossed paths with Andy Mackay (Roxy Music) while assisting at Channel House Studios. This encounter led to sound design work for the Roxy reunion tour in 2001 and the experimental project Andy Mackay and The Metaphors, featuring Roxy-alumni Paul Thompson and long-term collaborator Hazel Mills (Florence & The Machine, Goldfrapp, Birdy).
For the past 13 years, Tim has worked closely with Portishead’s Adrian Utley, serving as engineer/mixer on diverse Film and TV projects. This collaboration extended to acclaimed scores for Joan Of Arc and Arcadia, Portishead’s striking rendition of ABBA’s SOS, and tracks for artists like Martin Green (Lau), Anna Calvi, Mark Lanegan, and Kathryn Williams.
In recent years, Tim has shifted his focus to mixing, operating primarily from his personal mix room, ‘Station 7.’ He has lent his expertise to records for artists such as Bat For Lashes, Laura Groves, and Torres. Concurrently, he has co-produced and mixed records for Hannah Peel, contributing to the Mercury Prize-nominated “Fir Wave,” and long-time collaborator Hazel Mills.
In addition to his studio credits, he is also an accomplished musician, programmer and remixer – touring the world several times playing guitar, bass and synths for Bat For Lashes, performing regularly with Adrian Utley’s Guitar Orchestra, and recently releasing a doomy synth-laden collaboration with Charlotte Hatherley called Traveller on EMI’s legendary KPM label.
