Biography
Sarah Gillespie is a critically acclaimed singer songwriter, lyricist and producer.
Her 4 albums of original songs received 4 and 5-star reviews from the Guardian, Independent, Jazzwise, Times and Mojo plus plaudits from iconic British musician Robert Wyatt, for mixing elements of jazz, folk and Americana with her trademark poetic lyrics.
Having co-produced her 2019 album “Wishbones” with her bandmate, Mercury-nominated composer Kit Downes, she has continued to expand her work as a producer, recently producing her own record in Berlin’s Hansa Studio (to be launched on February 1st 2024) and regularly with her team in London’s Eastcote Studio with upcoming jazz, punk, pop, folk and indie-rock artists including Susy Thomas, Marta Capponi, and Jessica B. In 2020 Gillespie founded the Create Now Academy providing song writing mentorship to women and girls.
Gillespie has toured extensively in Europe and the USA playing leading venues (Ronnie Scott’s, CBGB’s, Blue Note Milan). She’s played live on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’, Loose Ends and was interviewed by Andrew Marr on Start the Week’ on the role of politics in song. (She has a master’s degree in politics and philosophy).
