Biography
Over the past 15 years, Tom Excell has firmly established himself as a versatile producer specializing in a diverse range of genres, including Pan-African music, Jazz, Electronic Dance music, Reggae, and Hip-Hop. His music has found homes on esteemed labels such as Sony, Universal, Domino, Strut, Blue Note, Soundway, Tru Thoughts, Real World, and Luaka Bop.
Wearing multiple hats as a composer, producer, guitarist, percussionist, and musical director, Tom leads his own projects, including Nubiyan Twist, Onipa, and Chief Roackas. Beyond his personal ventures, he has contributed as a producer, composer, and remixer for an extensive list of artists, encompassing Ego Ella May, Nerija, David Walters, K.O.G, Corto Alto, Judi Jackson, The Turbans, Kassin, Afronaut Zu, Scrimshire, Dizraeli, Zawose Queens, Ife Ogunjobi, Franz Von, TC & The Groove Family, Me and My Friends, Ria Moran, Megan Henwood, By The Rivers, and Kapurna Quartet.
In 2023, Excell assumed the role of musical director for Tony Allen’s retrospective show at the Royal Festival Hall. Orchestrating a collective of 30 musicians, including Damon Albarn, Dave Okumu, Dele Sosimi, Eska, Ezra Collective, Kokoroko, Joan as Police Woman, Nitin Sawhney, and Wayne Snow, he curated a remarkable musical experience.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Excell has delved into commercial work with commissions for renowned entities such as Red Bull, EA Sports, Samsung, and Nandos.
