Biography
Australian by birth but now based in Berlin, Victor Van Vugt is a writer/producer/mixer known for his innovative work across multiple genres.
He spent his teenage years cutting his teeth with some of Australia’s greatest artists of the time including Nick Cave, The Triffids, Ed Kuepper (The Saints), and The Go-Betweens.
The success of these artists took him to London where he found himself working with the likes of P.J. Harvey, The Pogues, The Fall, Sonic Youth, Einstrüzende Neubauten, Kirsty MacColl, Billy Bragg and Depeche Mode…. and the great Lee Scratch Perry.
Victor rose to prominence producing the iconic ‘The Good Son’ album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. This collaboration marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership between Van Vugt and Cave, with the producer going on to work on several of the band’s subsequent albums.
He moved to New York City in the late ’90s where he continued to work with Beth Orton, Athlete and others including Cat Power, Chrissie Hynde, Mercury Rev, and Gogol Bordello and more.
Now in Berlin, Victor continues to seek out a diverse range of artists both Producing and Mixing. His keen ear for detail, innovative production techniques, and his ability to capture the essence of an artist’s vision have cemented his status as one of the industry’s most respected and accomplished producers.
